This is student work in pursuit of a masters degree. This is not an authentic brand.
As a twin, you spend your whole life attempting to separate yourself from your biological counterpart, often becoming so wrapped up in your differences that you forget how similar you really are. Everlasting represents the relationship I share with my twin brother Smith who is severely effected by Autism.

Besides our very DNA makeup, there is something that unites Smith and I. I always thought his child-like spirit and ability to see the good within the world was something I learned from him, but that's not the case. It's something I have always had within myself, it is the binding factor that makes my bond with my brother so special, a gift we both share.

The movement of never ending loops within my sculpture is symbolic of the everlasting relationship I will share with my brother. The commonalities within the two forms, the way they take up pace and ebb and flow together show the nature of the childlike spirit me and my brother share. While they are 2 different shapes, they are more alike than they are different. They will never be separated, forever dancing together in a continuous intertwined path.

The stainless steel material will never rust. It will forever remain this same despite rain, snow, heat, and cold. The very nature of the materials durability and strength lends itself to be used for appliances, buildings, and power tools. It is essentially indestructible, the same way me and my brothers bond can never be broken. I wanted the material to be reflective so that others can look at the sculpture and see themselves and their own relationships within the form. A reminder that our similarities outweigh our differences. I placed the tombstone on the coastline of Charleston, a place where me and my brother spend a lot of time. I wanted the harsh metal to contrast with the natural world around it, showing how me and smith’s relationship is different from all others.
